This is the basic initial training for mould professionals who want a certification as either a NORMI™ Certified Mould Assessor or NORMI™ Certified Mould Remediator. Even though, to avoid conflict of interest, the mould industry is broken into these two professions, NORMI™ teaches both in the same room in this course because assessors need to know how to do remediation and remediators need to understand the assessment process when a third-part assessor is not onsite. This unique training approach is called “concurrent training” and has proven very successful, especially with the hands-on segments we include. This is a three-day course and designed to put the student on a pathway to success in running his own business or being the best employee, he/she can be.
Once trained, the student may sit for either or both proctored examinations (CMA & CMR) after paying a separate examination/certification fee. NORMI™ ACTIVE Membership is required for your certification(s) to be visible on the NORMI™ lead-sourcing site.
NEWS UPDATE – January 8th, 2026 – We are integrating and including training from the newly formed MEDICAL ADVISORY BOARD (MAB) – “Where Medical Insight Meets Environmental Solutions” – details to follow.

*EARLY BIRD: Special discount pricing is offered based, primarily, on class size but may be removed when satisfactory class size has been met. Last day for special pricing is typically ten (10) days prior to the first day of class.
Description
NORMI™ Certified Mould Assessor & Remediator (CMACMR) – 3 Day CONCURRENT TRAINING
- NORMI™ Certified Mold Assessor (CMA)
Too often in today’s litigious environment, consumers are overly cautious about the presence of mold in their home or the home they are trying to purchase. Apart from the “hysteria”, this advance CMI course is designed to give a commonsense approach and solution to problems that are not, in most cases, life-threatening and are, in all cases, manageable with effective, and inexpensive, sanitization techniques.
The CMA is a fully licensed and insured professional, trained to meet specific provincial requirements for licensure (where applicable), who has completed at least 24 hours of education in advanced mould assessment techniques including mould, water, and respiratory protection (PPE). Based on a NORMI proctored examination, this experienced professional develops an IAQ profile using investigative techniques and writes protocol for either sanitization or remediation based on IICRC S500, IICRC S520, NYC Guidelines, and EPA Standards. The CMA has also been trained in corrosive drywall (CDW or Chinese Drywall) screening and mitigation, based on the latest information provided by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), EPA, and other governmental controlling agencies.
- NORMI™ Certified Mold Remediator (CMR)
Only when the “renovation” process is done correctly can the consumer be sure that, not only has the problem been eliminated but, proper construction techniques have been implemented to reduce the chances of the mold returning.
The CMR is a fully licensed and insured professional, trained to meet specific provincial requirements for licensure (where applicable), who has completed at least 30 hours of education in mould remediation techniques including assessment, mould, water, and respiratory protection (PPE). Based on a NORMI proctored examination, this experienced professional development follows industry standard protocols for either sanitization and remediation based on IICRC S500, IICRC S520, NYS Guidelines, and EPA Standards. The CMR has also been trained in corrosive drywall (CDW or Chinese Drywall) screening and mitigation, based on the latest information provided by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), EPA, and other governmental controlling agencies.
The NORMI™ examinations for Mold Assessor and Mold Remediator sittings will be available on the final day of training following a NORMI™ CMA or CMR onsite or online class. This two-hour proctored exam is designed to evaluate the candidate’s knowledge of mold assessment, sampling techniques, interpretation of lab reports, moisture intrusion, moisture mapping, protocol writing, remediation techniques including establishing containment, creating negative pressure, HAZCOM and Personal Protection Equipment.
DETAILS for Licensing: The CMA and CMR certifications each provide credibility in Canada.
CERTIFICATION Process: Once the class has been taken and the proctored examination passed with 70% or more, the student will receive a certification document which will be placed in his NORMI™ Member Account. A single certification is provided, and an additional charge may be incurred for additional certifications to satisfy specific requirements. For more information, please contact NORMI™ at 877.359.2109 or email training@normicanada.org
CLASSROOM Instruction: A classroom student manual is available for online students (may be purchased) or provided to onsite students where notes should be taken for the exam. Each proctored examination is in an open book-setting. Classroom instruction will include training on mould, moisture, moisture intrusion, IR moisture thermal imaging, assessment, report writing, containment, remediation techniques, protocol writing and standards of practice.
WORKSHOP Hands-On: During the course, hands-on training will be involved for both assessors and remediators and students are encouraged to participate. This enhances the learning experience and a primary reason why we encourage onsite class participation.
LIVE ONLINE Simulcast Option: Students are encouraged to participate in the onsite training to experience the hands-on segments of the course but, where necessary, the student may take this course with a LIVE ONLINE Simulcast Option. NormiCanada utilizes high-tech TV Studio classroom with quality equipment to provide a live setting experience – students may participate by asking and answering questions in this live setting. This course is broadcast LIVE in the classroom and through the ZOOM platform and details for accessing the class are given a short time prior to the commencement of the class.
